Campaigning with Labour Students
 Darren joined a number of key Labour Party activists on Saturday 10th October at the Labour Students stall for this year's Freshers Fair. Tendring Local Strategic Partnership
 Darren took part in the Tendring Local Strategic Partnership Conference at the Columbine Centre in Walton on the Naze. The event was organised for key partners to comment upon the refreshed Sustainable Community Strategy. The LSP brings together multiple agencies to work together to create and deliver a strategy across a number of key themes; Health, Economic Development & Business Support, Children & Young People, Crime & Disorder, Community Regeneration and the Environment. Wivenhoe Town Council 21/09
 Darren attended the Wivenhoe Town Council meeting on Monday 21/09 as part of his engagement with the various communities across the Harwich & North Essex Constituency, where he was introduced to councillors by Town Mayor, Councillor Neil Lodge. The was a good deal of discussion around the potential introduction of extended residential parking in Park Road by the Borough Council. Harwich Town Council 16/09
 Darren attended the Harwich Town Council meeting on Wednesday 16/09 as part of his engagement with the various communities across the Harwich & North Essex Constituency. At the meeting were presentations from the current Conservative cabinet member for Leisure at Tendring District Council and the previous cabinet member Councillor Pierre Oxley. Wivenhoe Assets Community Interest Company
 Darren has attended the first Director's meeting of the newly formed Wivenhoe Assets Community Interest Company. He has joined Sir John Ashworth, Eugene Kraft, Cyril Liddy, Peter Richards, Janet Turner and Dave Purdey in creating a new group in Wivenhoe that will be focused on working with local groups that need funding for the acquisition or improvement of community assets.  Darren attended the Alresford Parish Council meeting on Wednesday 02/09 as part of his engagement with the various communities across the Harwich & North Essex Constituency. Although not a stranger to Alresford, he has a number of relatives that live in the village, he believes that understanding the issues within individual communities is a vital part of being a good constituency MP. Harwich Sea Festival
 Darren and his family spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the Harwich Sea Festival on Sunday 26th July. As always the event was well supported by hundreds of locals and visitors. Along with more than 30 stalls and side-shows, Sea Shanty's from Harwich group Golden Rivetts and Various Washes, traditional songs performed from the 150 year-old fishing boat, Excelsior, The Royal British Legion's brass band performing from Decadent, the highlight was the sea rescue demonstration by the Harwich branch of the RNLI. Tendring Youth Bus
 Darren was very pleased to welcome the new Tendring Youth Bus to Brightlingsea on the occasion of the opening of Brightlingsea Swimming Pool. The Youth Bus is provided by Tendring Community Transport and was supported by Essex County Council's Community Initiative Fund. Youth Bus users are able to access football, rugby, swimming, biking and numerous other healthy activities. The bus is also used to access vocational training, nursery schools, other schools and colleges, scouts, brownies, guides facilities and much more, with 87 community groups registered to use the bus. Supporting the Brightlingsea Town Plan
 Darren was asked to speak at the inaugural meeting of the Brightlingsea Town Plan. The event was organised by Brightlingsea Town Councillor Mrs Vivien Chapman and was attended by the Rural Community Council for Essex and was well attended by around 150 members of the public. Campaign to protect Mersea school
 Darren joined Councillor Dave Harris and TLA Governor Nic Evans to collect signatures opposing the current County Council proposals which will shut the Thomas Lord Audley School, the key secondary school for children living in Mersea. The Lozenge Nature Area opens
 Darren attended the formal opening of The Lozenge nature area in Brightlingsea, accompanied by the Mayor of Brightlingsea, Alan Goggin, Roger Tabor, Chair of the British Naturalists along with members of the Community Reach Partnership and many members of the community. The project was delivered by Darren's Community Reach Partnership, in partnership with Brightlingsea Town Council, following a successful funding application to EEDA's Quality of Place scheme, administered by Action for Market Towns. Darren launches 2008 campaign with friends
 Darren has launched his 2008 Campaign at an event in his home town of Brightlingsea, attended by many friends and supporters.
Music was provided by local bank "Drunk by Teatime" and delicious food was provided by the Brightlingsea Woodcraft Folk.
Speaking at the event Darren said that his immediate priorities for the first few months of this year are to support Labour's candidates in the Local Council Elections to be held on 1st May.
